The expression of this receptor ves enhanced in DD tat* followi”g -dark-induced DA deprivation. MEL ves quantifiable in DL BN rats sacrificed et night, while only N&etyl-serotoni” wee detectable in Wistar rats. The retinal DA content was Rreatly decreased (80%) after blockade of tyrosine hydrorylase activity by alpha-mpt. In this condition. MEL was enhanced (about 40X) in DL BN rats. The MEL content also incressed (about 30X) following blockade of the DP-like receptor by clozwine. in DL BN rats sacrificed et night. &&&&J&: The -results confirm the implication of-DA in the regulstion of MEL synthesis by photoreceptor cells through e D&like receptor I” rats. The <:lorapi”e-induced increase in MEL synthesis indicates that the receptor involved is likely to be of the D4 subtype. THE WEAVER MUTATION: EFFECT ON THE DOPAMINE SYSTEM OF THE RETINA.

Expression of the weaver gene in dopamine-containing neural systems is dose-dependent and affects both striatal and nonstriatal regions.
In an earlier report we presented evidence pointing to a differential effect of the mutant gene weaver on the dopamine-containing fiber systems innervating the striatum. In mice homozygous for the weaver mutation, there is a severe loss of dopamine in the caudoputamen, the main target of the nigrostriatal system. By contrast, dopamine is entirely conserved in the nucleus accumbens, a target of ...
متن کاملThe effect of dextromethorphan on apomorphine-induced pecking behavior in chick
Dextromethorphan is an NMDA receptor antagonist in the glutamatergic system. Currently, there are some reports showing that the glutamatergic NMDA receptor mechanism stimulates dopamine release from several brain regions. This effect may in part modulate the stereotyped behaviors of dopaminergic system. The purpose of the present study was to determine the interaction between the blockade of NM...

Background and purpose : Âscorbic acid, an antioxidant vitamine, is found throughout the mammalian central nervous system (ÇNS). There is evidence that it may modulate neuronal activity, release of neurotransmitters and dopamine receptors activities. There are behavioral evidences supporting the antidopaminergic effect of ascorbic acid. This effect of ascorbic acid may, in part, modulate the ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Inhibition of Dopamine D2 Receptors on Some of the Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells of the Rat under Food restriction
Background & Objective: In previous studies, the effects of food restriction on the changes in immune responses and brain dopamine content have been determined. On the other hand, it has been shown that immune cells, in addition to dopamine production, also have dopamine receptors. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of inhibition of D2 dopamine receptors on several functions o...
متن کاملAn investigation on the effects of the Aloe Vera extract on the thickness of the retina in male diabetic rats
Retina is a part of the central nervous system derived from the neuroectoderm and made up of 5 layers. In this study, the changes in the thickness of the retinal layers as a consequence of diabetes and effect of Aloe Vera gel extract in male rats were assessed. Thirty Sprague Dawley adult male rats (175 ± 25 g) in two age groups (4 and 8 weeks) were divided into 6 groups of 5 as control, diabeti...
